INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Ivy Tech Community College’s Chief Information Officer Matt Etchison, Chief Data Officer Brad Watts, and the Ivy Tech Community College ITS Team was announced as the Tech Education Award winner at the 2021 Mira Awards. The Award recognizes educators, organizations, and programs that inspire and open doors for learners of all ages in ways that supply the future workforce and create economic opportunities for Hoosiers. These leaders respond to the needs of students, with special attention to opportunities for underrepresented groups, and have an undeniably positive impact on student achievement and the future workforce.
“Ivy Tech is laser focused on providing resources for students as we know the important role Ivy Tech plays in the success of our state. We believe in high tech and high touch to help our students launch their careers after leaving Ivy Tech,” Etchison said. “Ivy Tech recently partnered with Salesforce to transform and optimize the student journey throughout the college. We harnessed the power of the Salesforce platform to create the most modern, innovative student system in all of higher education. It provides applicants and students a seamless experience while allowing the college to have data analytics and insights into our students and how best to serve them.”
Ivy Tech was already on its way to a vast agile and digital transformation before the pandemic. In 2020, when the pandemic caused colleges to close its physical locations, Ivy Tech took just 48 hours to make an aggressive pivot to a fully-online institution with more than 40 locations across Indiana. Additionally, more than 100,000 students needed to be completely virtual within a matter of one week. Not only did the College support the digital needs of the students, including pointing its wireless network to parking lots, they also ensured laptops were available to underserved students.
Indianapolis-based company, TechPoint, hosts the annual Mira Awards event and winners were selected by a panel of 52 independent, volunteer judges, including company founders, CEOs and presidents, engineers, and more. The event was held virtually to an audience of nearly 6,000 including more than 120 nominees in 16 categories.
