INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Ivy Tech Community College has named Dr. Mia D. Johnson as chancellor for the Anderson campus, effective immediately. Ivy Tech underwent a community listening tour, a national search, and finalist community and campus forums for the selection process. Dr. Johnson has served in many leadership roles at Ivy Tech including, most recently, as interim chancellor for the Anderson campus and vice chancellor for academic affairs at the Muncie campus.

“I am honored to have the opportunity to serve as the Chancellor of Ivy Tech’s Anderson campus,” said Johnson. “Over the last 10 years, our community has evolved and I know as we work to grow the campus, this team will be dedicated to ensuring student success. We are committed to providing students the skills necessary to further their education or go directly into the workforce. Education is the catalyst that helps communities thrive. I am passionate about ensuring that Ivy Tech is a strategic community partner. We will collaborate with our local schools, employer partners, and community officials. We are committed to doing whatever it takes to make sure this campus flourishes.”
In addition to Johnson’s most recent roles, she is also an associate professor of Psychology and Human Services at Ivy Tech. She has been with Ivy Tech for more than 12 years. Her career at the College began as a certification and assessment center associate in the testing center. She has also worked as the assistant registrar, regional registrar, human services faculty, program chair, department chair, and dean.
“Dr. Johnson is the quintessential chancellor,” said Ivy Tech President Sue Ellspermann. “She was an Ivy Tech student and graduate, has served in a number of roles at the college, and has progressively grown as an academic and leader over 12 years. During her time as the Interim Chancellor, she demonstrated her commitment, engagement, and leadership ability with the Anderson campus and community. We welcome her to the full rank of Chancellor.”
Johnson is active in the community serving as the president elect for the YWCA-Central Indiana, and serving on the board of directors for the YMCA of Muncie, and the Community Foundation of Muncie and Delaware County’s scholarship advisory committee. She also is a mentor for Project Leadership, member of Rotary and Altrusa International, and very active in International Leadership Association.
She is a Muncie native who graduated from Ivy Tech Community College in 2003 and then went on to earn both her Bachelors and Masters’ degrees in Psychology, and a PhD in Global Leadership with a Higher Education concentration in 2016.
