Dr. Mia D. Johnson to serve as interim chancellor during national search process
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Ivy Tech Community College has named Dr. Mia D. Johnson as interim chancellor for the Anderson campus, effective July 6, 2020. Ivy Tech will undertake community listening and a national search for the chancellor in the Fall. Johnson has served in many leadership roles at Ivy Tech Community College including, most recently, as vice chancellor for academic affairs at the Muncie campus. Dr. Jim Willey, who most recently served as chancellor of the Anderson campus, announced his retirement earlier this Spring.
“I am thrilled to be chosen to serve in the Anderson community during this time of transition for the campus,” said Johnson. “Having the opportunity to take on this leadership role and expand my experience with the College will be invaluable and I look forward to working with the amazing faculty and staff at the Anderson campus.”
In addition to Johnson’s most recent role, she is also an associate professor of Psychology and Human Services at Ivy Tech. She has been with Ivy Tech for more than 12 years. Her career at the College began as a certification and assessment center associate in the testing center. She has also worked as the assistant registrar, regional registrar, human services faculty, program chair, department chair, and dean.
“We are confident in Mia’s ability to lead and serve as the interim chancellor, and will stay committed to the process of running a thorough national search that will generate a highly qualified group of finalists,” said Ivy Tech President, Sue Ellspermann. “The search process does include listening sessions with faculty, staff and community members designed to hear from our stakeholders on what qualities they are looking for in the next chancellor for the Anderson Campus. Due to the pandemic the timing of those sessions has been pushed back to late August-early September with the goal to have the new chancellor in place by January 2021.”
Johnson is active in the community serving as the president elect for the YWCA-Central Indiana, and serving on the board of directors for the United Way of Delaware, Henry and Randolph Counties, YMCA of Muncie, and the Community Foundation of Muncie and Delaware County’s scholarship advisory committee. She also is a mentor for Project Leadership, member of Rotary and Altrusa International, and very active in International Leadership Association.
Johnson is a Muncie native who graduated from Ivy Tech Community College in 2003 and then went on to earn both her Bachelors and Masters’ degrees in Psychology, and a PhD in Global Leadership with a Higher Education concentration in 2016.
