Ivy Tech Community College Nursing Leader named to national nursing accrediting body

INDIANAPOLIS – Dr. Laurie Peters, Associate Vice President for Nursing Education at Ivy Tech Community College, has been appointed co-chair of the National League for Nursing (NLN) Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation Program Review Committee.  She will serve a two year term.

The NLN’s accreditation services, represented by the NLN Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (CNEA), promotes excellence and integrity in nursing education globally through an accreditation process that respects the diversity of program mission, curricula, students, and faculty; emphasizes a culture of continuous quality improvement; and influences the preparation of a caring and competent nursing workforce. CNEA carries out its accreditation activities guided by the National League for Nursing’s core values – caring, diversity, integrity, and excellence – as applied to the accreditation process.

Peters has worked in nursing education at Ivy Tech for more than 23 years and has served on numerous state and national committees including past President of the Indiana State Board of Nursing, co-chair of the Indiana Commission for Higher Education’s Transfer Single Articulation Pathway for Nursing committee, the Indiana Center for Nursing Board of Directors, and the NLN CNEA Standards committee.

As Associate Vice President for Nursing Education she is responsible for the overall administration and operation of the statewide associate of science and practical nursing programs, including more than 300 full- and part-time faculty and 2,500 nursing students annually.  She represents Academic Affairs on various College committees and taskforces, and represents the College to various external funding and regulatory agencies.

Ivy Tech continues to produce more nurses than any other college in the state of Indiana with more than 1,000 nurses graduating each year with Ivy Tech credentials.  Ivy Tech’s nursing programs are approved by the Indiana State Board of Nursing and accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing Inc.

Ivy Tech Community College is the state’s largest public postsecondary institution and the nation’s largest singly accredited statewide community college system.  Ivy Tech has campuses throughout Indiana.
