Ivy Tech Community College has selected Brendan Aldrich as the college’s new Chief Data Officer. He started his new position on Monday.
As Chief Data Officer, Aldrich will be responsible for enterprise-wide data and information governance, control, and data use policy development. He will ensure that appropriate data are captured and that the College has adequate processes in place to determine quality, availability, and analysis to help leadership make strategic business decisions to improve student success. He also will lead a process to engage and empower functional area data stewards to maximize the return on data assets and to champion a data-themed decision-making culture.
Aldrich most recently served as Executive Director of Enterprise Information Management at City Colleges of Chicago where he was responsible for data oversight, reform, and modernization of one of the nation’s largest community college districts. He created platforms to centralize and standardize data; established and was Chair of the Enterprise Architecture and Standards Committee; and spearheaded the development of new information services.
White there, he also earned the 2014 Innovators Award from Campus Technology Magazine for leading the design and delivery of a groundbreaking data warehouse and analytics system used by more than 5,800 faculty, administrators and staff. He also served as executive sponsor for data policies, standards, quality and governance and was responsible for regulatory compliance and data security.
Prior to his role at City Colleges of Chicago, he served as Director of Business Intelligence Analytics at Demand Media in Santa Monica, Calif., where he led data analytics and re-engineered business processes and technology platforms to streamline data operations; and maintained one of the west coast’s largest on-premise implementations of Omniture, along with data platforms containing more than 70 billion records and growing at 100 million records per day.
Aldrich has also served as Director of Business Systems at The Travelers Companies, Inc., in Hartford, Conn., where he managed analysis and documentation functions for data warehouse projects; designed the business and data analysis practices for the commercial insurance division; and developed customized training programs through Travelers University for analysts working in data fields.
He is a frequent speaker and panel member at industry events and has been a member of the governing board for Chicago’s Annual Chief Data Officer (CDO) Executive Summit since 2012.
Aldrich earned a bachelor’s of arts degree from California State University.
