Ivy Tech Community College Awarded 2014-2015 Military Friendly Schools Designation

INDIANAPOLIS — Ivy Tech Community College has been named to the 2015 Military Friendly Schools list by Victory Media. The Military Friendly Schools list honors the top 20 percent of colleges, universities and trade schools that best support America’s military service members, veterans and spouses as students.

“Ivy Tech is honored to be on the Military Friendly Schools list for another year,” Ivy Tech President Thomas J. Snyder said. “We truly appreciate the service and dedication of our nation’s veterans; the best way we can give back to them as a thank you for their years of service is to provide them with a great education, which prepares them for a great career, through Ivy Tech’s veteran services.”

Ivy Tech is committed to assisting military students. The college froze tuition for the past three years for all Hoosier veterans eligible for the GI Bill, members of the Indiana National Guard, Hoosier veterans and Indiana members of the federal military reserve. For the 2014-2015 school year the college froze in-state tuition at $111.15 per hour for veteran and military residents. Ivy Tech will also give course credit for certain military training.

Ivy Tech has served more veterans than any other college in the state of Indiana.  Currently, there are more than 6,300 veterans attending the college.

Ivy Tech has placed support staff throughout the state and appointed a statewide director to expand opportunities for veterans. The Veterans Affairs Office works with students who are veterans, their dependents and the Department of Veteran Affairs. The office assists students with veteran status and dependents of service members disabled or deceased. The team also oversees educational benefits and financial aid for veterans from 14 statewide offices.

The Military Friendly Schools website, at www.militaryfriendlyschools.com, features the list of this year’s best schools for military students as well as interactive tools and search functionality. More than 1,500 colleges, universities and trade schools made this year’s list, and they exhibit leading practices in the recruitment and retention of students with military experience.  These schools have world-class programs and policies for student support on campus, academic accreditation, credit policies, flexibility and other services to those who served.

Now in its sixth year, the 2015 list of Military Friendly Schools was compiled through extensive research and a data-driven survey of more than 10,000 schools nationwide approved for VA tuition funding. The survey results that comprise the 2015 list were independently tested by Ernst & Young LLP based upon the weightings and methodology established by Victory Media. Each year, schools taking the survey are held to a higher standard than the previous year via improved methodology, criteria and weightings developed with the assistance of an Academic Advisory Board (AAB) consisting of educators from schools across the country.  A full list of board members can be found at http://militaryfriendlyschools.com/board.

A full story and detailed list of 2015 Military Friendly Schools will be highlighted in the annual Guide to Military Friendly Schools, distributed in print and digital format to hundreds of thousands of active and former military personnel in early October.
