Ivy Tech Madison receives $20,000 award from GENEX Services, Inc.

Funds to be used for nursing student scholarships

MADISON – Ivy Tech Community College Madison will receive $20,000 from GENEX Services, Inc. for the college’s nursing program. The company’s gift will be given during a luncheon on Sept. 29 at Ivy Tech’s  Lawrenceburg campus.

GENEX Services, Inc. is the leading provider of case management services to the workers’ compensation, disability, and auto markets. The GENEX Scholarship Program allows case managers an opportunity to nominate their alma mater (or local college/university) for a monetary donation from GENEX to be used to support the educational endeavors of their student population via scholarships.

Angela Houston, a GENEX case manager and graduate of the practical nursing and associate of science in nursing programs at Ivy Tech Madison, nominated the campus for the scholarship award. Houston was among those in the first graduating class of the LPN to ASN program.

“[Ivy Tech] deserves this award because of their flexibility and commitment to non-traditional students,” Houston wrote in her nomination. “The opportunity given to me to transfer from a certificate, hospital-based RN program into Ivy Tech’s LPN program and then continuing immediately (while working) into the LPN to ASN program set my career on the path that I desired. I could not have finished RN school as easily without their willingness to pursue this option with me.”

“We are sincerely grateful for this generous gift that will help countless nursing students fulfill their dream of having a career in the nursing field,” said Laurie Peters, Associate Vice President for Nursing Education. “We are also thankful to Angela for her nomination. It is wonderful witnessing how an Ivy Tech education has helped changed the lives of our graduates.”
