Ivy Tech, state of Indiana rated highest in number of worker skills standards certifications

INDIANAPOLIS — The Manufacturing Skill Standards Council (MSSC), an independent, nationally-recognized, industry-standard, manufacturing training and assessment organization, rates Indiana and Ivy Tech Community College as the leading state and provider for the number of certifications awarded in 2012.

The announcement was made at the organization’s June Board Meeting and Leadership Council in Alliance, Texas, earlier this month. Indiana garnered the top position, recording 7,078 Certified Production Technician (CPT) and 574 Certified Logistics Technician (CLT) certifications. A large majority of those credentials were awarded by Ivy Tech.

The nationwide MSSC system is based upon industry-defined and federally-endorsed national standards. MSSC’s CPT and CLT Certificates are recognized as the gold standard for front-line industrial training. Employers value the MSSC credentials as they recruit skilled workers with proven knowledge and abilities to contribute to the company’s productivity and competitiveness in global markets.

“The workforce of the current and near-future will require middle-skill training and a career pathway, which is the outcome of MSSC-certified employees. Nationally portable credentials demonstrate the proven knowledge base,” said Ivy Tech President Thomas J. Snyder. “When companies consider expanding to Indiana, they want to know, with certainty, the skill level and proficiency of the workforce. MSSC certifications provide assurance that Indiana workers in advanced manufacturing and logistics are here and ready to contribute. We are proud of Ivy Tech’s leadership and achievement. This recognition tells the world that our state is ready to help companies grow and expand.”

MSSC Certified Production Technician (CPT-manufacturing) and Certified Logistics Technician (CLT-logistics) are the premier foundational components of the National Association of Manufacturers endorsed Skills Certification System.
