Event to focus on transforming healthcare with a world class workforce
INDIANAPOLIS – Ivy Tech Corporate College will host a statewide healthcare summit entitled Transforming Healthcare with a World Class 21st Century Workforce on March 14 that includes sessions from industry leaders about the challenges and opportunities of balancing the delivery of high quality care and running a successful business.
The Summit will focus on how to reduce costs and improve quality with a staff willing to embrace change and evolve with the industry. Presenters and panelists will analyze the skills of healthcare leaders who must facilitate a culture of collaboration, team-based care, and continuous improvement.
Keynote speaker, David O. Meltzer, M.D., Ph.D. from the University of Chicago, kicks off the event. Dr. Meltzer was a contributor to the IOM Report: Best Care at Lower Cost; The Path to Continuously Learning Health Care in America, and he will be discussing report findings and the evolving healthcare workforce.
Dr. Meltzer will be followed by panels of healthcare leaders discussing inherent challenges in managing transformation and the bottom line. The panels will be facilitated by Greg Pemberton, Partner at Ice Miller, LLP. Panels include a Hospital CEO Panel comprised of Albert Gutierrez, CEO of St. Joseph Regional Medical Center; Martin Padgett, CEO of Clark Memorial Hospital; and Thor Thordarson, CEO of IU Health, Laporte Hospital; as well as a Physicians Group Panel that includes Dr. Ben Park, President and CEO of American Health Network; Jimmy Cornelius Brown, President and CEO of HealthNet, Inc.; and Hoagland Elliott, Executive Director of the Raphael Center.
Afternoon break-out sessions include topics such as maximization of clinician time, nursing trends, current initiatives and technology, new nurse support roles, accountable care, increasing IT and data-savvy employees, patient engagement, Lean Six Sigma, leadership transitions, ICD-10, health information exchange and post-acute care.
The event will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., followed by a post-Summit reception from 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on March 14 at the Ivy Tech Corporate College and Culinary Center, located at 2820 N. Meridian St., Indianapolis.
