Ivy Tech Community College designated Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance

Ivy Tech Community College has been designated a National Center of Academic Excellence  in Information Assurance 2-Year Education by the National Security Agency and the Department of Homeland Security, with support from the National Science Foundation and CyberWatch. This effort was spearheaded by John Knight, program chair of Information Security at Ivy Tech Community College−Northeast.

“The CAE2Y has brought Ivy Tech Community College an improved standing in the local, regional, national and professional community and has opened opportunities for institutional and program marketing and monetary support from future grant funding,” Knight said. “We are focused on skills acquisition and we stand as an untapped resource in cyber education.”

The designation covers academic years 2012 through 2017. This CAE2Y institutional award is a statement of recognition that Ivy Tech Community College represents the standard of Information Assurance curriculum accepted in the academic and professional communities nationwide. The National Security Agency stated that Ivy Tech’s ability to meet the increasing demands of the program will serve the nation well in contributing to the protection of the National Information Infrastructure. One reviewer remarked, “Ivy Tech has demonstrated excellent breadth of mission, student development, outreach, internal IA policies and a multidisciplinary approach.”

Certificates will be presented during a lunch at the 16th Annual Conference of the Colloquium for Information Systems Security Education in June 2012.

Ivy Tech Community College offers Computer Information Systems, Computer Information Technology and Information Security programs. Coursework may lead to industry-recognized certifications, one-year technical certificates, two-year associate degrees.
