INDIANAPOLIS – Ivy Tech Community College and The Athens Campus of the University of Indianapolis (UIndy Athens) have reached an agreement that will allow Ivy Tech graduates to transfer into a bachelor’s degree program of study at UIndy Athens with reduced tuition for the first semester. The partnership also allows Ivy Tech students to study abroad during semester-long programs at a reduced cost.
The purpose of this agreement is to provide a cooperative relationship between Ivy Tech and UIndy Athens to benefit students who wish to continue their studies toward a bachelor’s degree with study abroad options or who wish to study abroad while attending Ivy Tech.
In the agreement, qualified graduates from Ivy Tech with an Associate of Science or an Associate of Arts who wish to pursue a bachelor’s degree at UIndy Athens will receive up to 30 percent tuition assistance for their first semester. Ivy Tech students who wish to spend a semester at UIndy Athens while studying at Ivy Tech will receive 20 percent tuition assistance. UIndy Athens will be Ivy Tech’s study abroad partner for all short-term programs in Greece which could include faculty exchanges, as well.
“Studying abroad is a tremendous experience that many Ivy Tech students are unable to have because of the cost,” said Ivy Tech Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Mary Ostrye. “We are appreciative of UIndy Athens’ partnership giving more Hoosiers have the opportunity to study overseas.”
Applicants will be accepted into UIndy Athens based on the University of Indianapolis admission standards. Students pursuing a bachelor’s degree have the option to stay and continue their studies in Athens beyond the first semester. UIndy Athens will make housing arrangements for the students while in Greece and will help students obtain visas and other necessary documentation.
The creation and approval of this agreement builds on the current transfer partnership between Ivy Tech and University of Indianapolis. In 2010, the University of Indianapolis and Ivy Tech reached an agreement allows qualified graduates from Ivy Tech business programs to transfer into several business bachelor’s degree specialties at UIndy.
