INDIANAPOLIS – Ivy Tech Community College has become a national collegiate leader in the use of Facebook as a customer service tool.
The college has more fans, totaling over 50,000, than any other community college in the nation. Ivy Tech has built its fan base from 25,000 to well over 50,000 in just the last year alone. The college sees an average of 100 new fans join each day.
Ivy Tech uses Facebook as a customer service and communications tool to better serve its students. Posts about financial aid procedures, registration dates and enrollment processes are routinely used on the page allowing students to post their questions. In addition, students are able to post any question about the college and receive an answer almost immediately.
Last month was a record-setting month for the college with over 23,000 comments and over 163,000 hits to its Facebook page.
“We see Facebook as an extension of our brand. We are serving our students by giving them quick and timely answers to their questions which in turn creates brand loyalty. Our students come to our Facebook page because they know they can get answers to their questions,” said Jeff Fanter, Vice President of Communications and Marketing for Ivy Tech.
Ivy Tech Community College is the state’s largest public post-secondary institution and the nation’s largest singly-accredited statewide community college system with more than 200,000 students enrolled annually. Ivy Tech has campuses throughout Indiana. It serves as the state’s engine of workforce development, offering affordable degree programs and training that are aligned with the needs of its community along with courses and programs that transfer to other colleges and universities in Indiana. It is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and a member of the North Central Association.
