NORTHEAST – Ivy Tech Community College−Northeast is hosting a Northeast Indiana Defense Industry Association (NIDIA) meeting and workshop Nov. 18 in the Coliseum Campus Auditorium (3800 North Anthony Blvd.)
The general mission of NIDIA is to address issues and opportunities facing the northeast Indiana defense industry community. One of their purposes is to work with community educators to develop and improve the local defense community’s ability to develop, attract and retain the required talent to effectively execute business opportunities.
From 8 to 10 a.m. will be a NIDIA members only meeting to facilitate supply chain networking and to inform members about industry opportunities. The agenda will include a report on NIDIA initiatives, a perspective on the Indiana Defense assets and an introduction to a statewide Aerospace and Defense Council.
At 10:30 a.m. Mary Kaczka, executive director of Partners in Contracting Corporation (PICC), will present a two-hour workshop titled “Introductory Government Contract Procurement.” This workshop is for NIDIA, PICC clients and the general public.
“Even though the nation is anticipating major cuts in Pentagon budgets, Indiana is well positioned to continue supporting the defense, homeland security and aerospace industries,” said Gil Perry, counselor/trainer for PICC. “The large contributing prime contractors, Raytheon, Rolls Royce, ITT and Crane are major players in the Indiana economy in terms of contract awards and jobs. This is a four billion dollar Indiana industry. We are fortunate to have such a large market with resources in northeast Indiana.”
