INDIANAPOLIS – Ivy Tech Community College announced that Dr. Mary E. Ostrye has been selected to serve as Provost, Chief Academic Officer and Vice President.

Ostrye will replace Dr. Don Doucette, who will be leaving the college to take the role as Chancellor of the Eastern Iowa Community College District. Ostrye will now report to President Thomas J. Snyder.

“Mary has an amazing background with Ivy Tech and has shown a successful record of leadership and innovation,” said Ivy Tech Community College President Thomas J. Snyder. “I’m very pleased that Mary will be joining our leadership team.”

Ostrye has been with the college since 1992 and most recently served as Vice Provost for Academic Affairs. During her time as Vice Provost she worked collaboratively with academic administrators from all campuses to ensure the statewide system operated as one college. She also created the School of Nursing and obtained a $784,000 grant for one of 19 nationwide adult degree attainment projects.

Prior to serving as Vice Provost, Ostrye served as Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs at Ivy Tech’s Lafayette campus. During her time there she co-authored the Pathway Program, the first concurrent-enrollment program with Purdue University, and effectively articulated the first statewide degree programs with Purdue.  She also designed and initiated the first early college program for high school students and the first faculty fellow program within the Ivy Tech system.

Preceding her time at the Lafayette campus, Ostrye served as Dean of the Schools of Health Sciences and Public Services at Ivy Tech’s Evansville campus. While there, she implemented the first statewide paramedic science degree program, and effectively negotiated the first statewide transfer agreements in early childhood education and human services with the University of Southern Indiana. She also established the first National Junior Honor Society in Evansville at an inner city middle school.

Before beginning her career at Ivy Tech, Ostrye served as an Assistant Professor/Acting Director of the Dental Hygiene program at the University of Southern Indiana, as well as a Chairperson and Assistant Professor of Dental Hygiene at West Virginia Institute of Technology. Ostrye has also served as a Section Representative for Health Care Professional Sales with Proctor and Gamble Distributing Company in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Ostrye earned a Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration from Indiana State University, a Master’s degree in Vocational-Technical Education from Marshall University, and a Bachelor’s of Science from West Virginia University.
