Philip named Ivy Tech-North Central interim Chancellor

SOUTH BEND – Chuck Philip has been appointed interim chancellor for Ivy Tech Community College-North Central.  Philip currently serves as the region’s vice chancellor of Academic Affairs, a position he has held since July 2008.

Virginia Calvin retired from the chancellor position on December 31 after 10 years of service to the college.  The search for a new regional chancellor will begin in the coming weeks.

Philip brings over 30 years of community college leadership experience to this position.  Prior to joining Ivy Tech, he served as vice president, Academic and Student Affairs at Lake Michigan College.  He also served as president of Hiwassee College in Madisonville, Tenn.; dean of faculty at Delta College in University Center, Mich.; dean of instruction at Kalamazoo Valley Community College; and division chair at Volunteer State Community College in Gallatin, Tenn.

Philip holds a doctorate in Higher Education Administration from Vanderbilt University; a master of science in Science Education from George Peabody College; and a bachelor of arts in Biology from California State University.
