INDIANAPOLIS – Ivy Tech Community College is helping students reduce their textbook expenses through a program with Follett Higher Education Group. Follett’s Rent-A-Text option rolled-out less than a year ago. It is the largest textbook rental program in the nation with students averaging a savings of more than 50 percent on new books. Since the start of the program, nearly 20,000 textbooks have been rented at Ivy Tech bookstores across the state saving students more than $1.2 million.

Rent-A-Text offers students the convenience of renting in store and online, and students can choose from a variety of payment options. This first term Ivy Tech bookstores had over 30 percent of titles available to rent. Students who choose to keep the book have the option to purchase it during the rental period, and books can be returned with normal wear and tear, allowing students to highlight or take notes in the textbook.

Student feedback has been positive. When surveyed, 99 percent said they would rent textbooks again in the future. Students were also asked about their satisfaction, and 95 percent of respondents reported high or very high satisfaction with the program.

Follett plans to add more rentable textbooks and to grow its digital textbook offerings providing even more opportunities for savings to Ivy Tech students.
