COLUMBUS – The public is invited to the Ivy Tech Community College-Columbus Campus Preview Day from 10:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Monday, November 22, at the campus main building on Central Avenue. The purpose of the event is to welcome anyone interested in becoming an Ivy Tech student, parents of prospective students, and Ivy Tech-Columbus undecided students to one event where they can receive information about admissions, academic and student programs, student life, financial aid, and tour the campus, according to Kelly Baker, Ivy Tech Assistant Director of Admissions.
Campus tours will be given on the hour every hour from 11:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. Fifteen-minute financial aid presentations will be given every hour on the half hour from 11:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m.
Demonstrations by faculty from various programs will provide a hands-on, practical look as to the types of things students would learn in the programs, as well as what they will be able to do with the degree they might earn in a particular program. “We hope that our attendees will not only get an idea of the programs we offer and careers they might enter; we also hope that they will get a sense of the great people who work here – faculty and staff – and the passion we have for helping students,” Baker said.
Workshops given by faculty of the various programs include careers in interior design (interior design program); veggie carving (culinary program); glucose and blood pressure screenings (medical assisting program); PhotoShop retouching of photos (visual communications program); careers in education (education program); organic gardening and culinary herbs (agriculture program); cardiac demonstration (health care support program); and demonstration of a state-of-the-art 3D printer (design technology program).
