NORTHEAST – In partnership with Follett Higher Education Group, Ivy Tech Community College–Northeast introduces the expanded New Edition Bookstore on the lower level of Harshman Hall at the college’s North Campus (4900 St. Joe Road). On Wednesday, September 29, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Ivy Tech and Follett’s invite the community to visit this new retail space as part of its grand opening celebration open house. A brief ribbon-cutting ceremony will begin at 10 a.m.
“The much-expanded bookstore will improve the overall campus experience for our students here at Ivy Tech. The new space brings us the best of collegiate retail,” says Chancellor Jerrilee K. Mosier. “We are confident this improved bookstore will simplify shopping for our students, packaging the latest products and programs with the best possible service all in one place.”
The original bookstore at Ivy Tech–Northeast opened in 1976 with a small footprint of less than 400 sq. ft. Since its opening, the bookstore has seen multiple spaces, including a larger area in 1981 (1,450 sf.) and a new location in July 1996. In 2008, Follett Higher Education Group assumed operations of all Ivy Tech Community College bookstore locations, and in collaboration with the college, triggered plans to create this new campus store featuring 11,000 sq. ft. of retail space in Harshman Hall on the North Campus.
The new bookstore space features a greatly expanded retail area for a larger selection of products. Apparel, general and reference books, computer accessories, nursing/medical supplies, and textbook area have all been expanded, creating a more comfortable shopping environment for customers. Today, the New Edition Bookstore serves nearly 12,000 students at the Fort Wayne campus in addition to the surrounding community.
“Our students lead busy lives, and our chief goal was to create a one-stop shopping experience for ‘everything Ivy’, said Bookstore Manager Robin Bertsch. “Building a bookstore of choices – from used books, to rental, and even digital options – provides better opportunity for student success in the classroom.”
