Ivy Tech Offers Students Concurrent Admission with USI

INDIANAPOLIS  – Ivy Tech Community College is now offering students concurrent admission with the University of Southern Indiana (USI). The concurrent admission program, USIvy, is designed for new students enrolling at Ivy Tech Community College who plan to ultimately earn a four-year degree at USI.
The new program will allow students to apply and be admitted to USI, while still attending Ivy Tech. It will also help ease the transfer process for Ivy Tech students who wish to attend the University of Southern Indiana.

Ivy Tech Community College Chancellor Dan Schenk and USI President Linda L. M. Bennett formalized the joint program by announcing it today at USI.

“The intent of USIvy is to leverage educational resources at both institutions in order to help students achieve their undergraduate educational goals.” said Ivy Tech Chancellor Dan Schenk. “This is another step in our work to make transferring to a four-year university easier for our students.”

“Last year 150 students from Ivy Tech Community College transferred to USI,” said USI President Linda L.M. Bennett. “Now a USIvy student who continues eligibility, can transfer to USI having already established a relationship with an admission counselor and a faculty advisor.  Students will adjust quickly and easily assimilate to the university setting.”

Students who plan to pursue a degree in a field that requires a separate application (like social work, education, and nursing) are not guaranteed admission through USIvy.  Such programs require separate applications because of required references, specific GPAs, and/or criminal history checks.

Elizabeth TenBrook, USI assistant director of admission, is coordinating the program for USI. She is available to talk with interested students about what academic programs are included in the USIvy program. Students who are interested in additional information may contact the Admission Offices at either institution.

Ivy Tech Community College is the state’s largest public post-secondary institution and the nation’s largest singly-accredited statewide community college system with more than 150,000 students enrolled annually.  Ivy Tech has campuses throughout Indiana.  It serves as the state’s engine of workforce development, offering affordable degree programs and training that are aligned with the needs of its community along with courses and programs that transfer to other colleges and universities in Indiana.  It is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and a member of the North Central Association.

The University of Southern Indiana, a comprehensive public institution of higher education located in Evansville, Indiana, is one of five Indiana public universities conferring baccalaureate and higher degrees. Study abroad opportunities are available in more than 50 countries.  A spirit of collaboration and exploration defines USI.  Students work with faculty experts on undergraduate research and creative projects to gain inspired perspectives in service learning settings. USI faculty are accessible, engaging, and most importantly, committed to teaching.
