Ivy Tech Chancellor accepts president position in North Carolina

INDIANAPOLIS – Ivy Tech Community College announced today that Dr. Hank Dunn, Chancellor of Ivy Tech’s Indianapolis campus, has accepted the position of President of Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College in North Carolina.

Dunn was selected unanimously today by the College’s Board of Trustees. He will begin his new job March 1.

“It is with a combination of joy and sorrow that I announce I will be leaving Ivy Tech Community College,” said Dunn. “It has been a great pleasure and joy of mine to work side by side with the Ivy Tech team as we provide higher education opportunities to the citizens of Indiana. The successes of this community college have been well documented and it has been a pleasure to be part of this success story in Indiana. I have watched Asheville-Buncombe Tech for years. It too is a great school with many existing programs that have created exceptional student successes.”

Dunn, 57, has served as Chancellor of Ivy Tech’s Indianapolis campus since July 2006.

“Hank has made a tremendous impact during his time at Ivy Tech, growing the Indianapolis campus from just 14,500 students to more than 24,000 students currently,” said Thomas J. Snyder, President of Ivy Tech. “He has created a legacy of greatness here at Ivy Tech, and I’m sure he will do the same at Asheville-Buncombe.”

While at Ivy Tech, Dunn also built strong ties with the local school systems and the business community, adding an early admissions program that allows high school students to earn up to 30 hours of credit through dual enrollment courses and creating college readiness centers that assess and prepare students to enter college.

Under his leadership, Ivy Tech more than doubled the revenue generated through its Workforce and Economic Development division, which provided training services to more than 200 employers in the Central Indiana region in the past fiscal year.

Dr. Kathleen Lee, Dean of Academic Affairs at the Indianapolis Campus, wills serve as acting chancellor. A search committee will be formed to find a replacement for Dunn’s position.
