Ivy Tech advising students of enrollment limitations

INDIANAPOLIS – Ivy Tech Community College today posted online procedures instructing students on how to get into the limited number of classes still available on its campuses statewide.

Fall enrollment as of Wednesday (8/19/09) topped 106,644, an all-time record, and the college is enrolling up to 2,000 students daily. As compared to Fall term last year, the college has already increased by more than 20,000 students or 24.3 percent with students still registering.

Ivy Tech previously advised students to enroll early through an aggressive promotional campaign, and early enrollments were at an all time high.

Below is Ivy Tech’s message to students:

Dear Ivy Tech Community College Students,

This year has been a record year for enrollment at Ivy Tech Community College. On behalf of the entire College community, I thank you for choosing Ivy Tech and for your patience during what has been a tremendously busy enrollment cycle at the community college.

Due to the significant increase in Fall enrollment, you may have found it challenging to get in to classes at times and locations you prefer or could not enroll in a class at all due to that class being full.

If you are still planning on registering for Fall classes, we encourage you to consider one or more of the following options:

  • Continue to check the online registration system to see if seats have become available in the classes you want, and get on wait lists if they are available at your local campus.
  • Register for courses that may start later in the Fall 2009 term, such as 8-week or 10-week courses.
  • Review available online classes to determine if they meet your needs.
  • Check to see if your class is available at another campus or off-site learning center.

To ensure you are not dropped from the classes for which you have already registered, please be sure to pay your tuition bill or make arrangements to pay your tuition either via the Bursar’s Office or Financial Aid Office at your local campus by Monday, August 24, 2009. Please log onto Self-Service Banner, Student Accounts to see what financial aid is available to help cover your tuition and fees. The College will begin dropping students from their registered classes early next week if they have not paid or made arrangements to pay their tuition bill.

If you have not already done so, we encourage you to begin planning for your Spring 2010 semester and inquire with your local campus on registration for the Spring term.

Again, we understand this extra burden on our students during this unprecedented time of growth for the college. We certainly appreciate your selection of Ivy Tech Community College, and we look forward to helping you achieve your educational goals.
