INDIANAPOLIS – Ivy Tech Community College will be hosting and conducting pilot assessments for Indiana logistics workers in two new national workforce certifications for a new, industry-led credentialing system for front-line workers in supply chain logistics.
Indiana has more than 125,000 logistics/supply chain workers and historically there has been no nationally recognized or portable certification for front-line and first tier logistics/supply chain workers. Participants in this new certification program will be assessed for two credentials: the functional-level Certified Logistics Associate (CLA) certificate and the mid-level Certified Logistics Technician (CLT) certification.
These certifications address the core competencies of higher skilled, front-line material handling workers (entry-level to first line of supervision) across the supply chain – from factories, to warehouses, to distribution centers to transporters. The certification system includes industry-defined, nationally validated standards; courses; textbooks; teacher training; assessments and registry. These credentials are sponsored by the Manufacturers Skill Standards Council (MSSC).
The certification system for supply chain logistics is modeled after the highly successful MSSC standards, training, testing and credentialing system for the foundational skills of manufacturing production workers. The manufacturing standards have been utilized to train and assess more than 2,000 of Indiana’s Advanced Manufacturing workers to date.
These industry-recognized, nationally portable CLA and CLT credentials help prepare individuals for careers in the rapidly growing and changing world of global supply chain logistics. Companies will benefit from a pipeline of higher skilled workers, decreased recruitment costs, elimination of remedial training costs, and an agile, readily trainable workforce able to adapt to change.
The new credentialing program will be available at Ivy Tech through March 13. Companies and individuals wanting more information can contact Sherman Johnson, Executive Director of Workforce and Economic Development, at 317-917-5713 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
