Ivy Tech Community College receives grant from Chase

INDIANAPOLIS – Chase has given Ivy Tech Community College a $50,000 grant to support the Play and Learn project at Ivy Tech’s Indianapolis campus.

The Play and Learn groups are community-based early childhood programs that encourage and enhance positive learning experiences between parents and children. The project targets families and caregivers who are not utilizing formal childcare, providing a quality learning environment for the families to help facilitate positive interactions. Play and Learn groups also provide parents and caregivers with a place to socialize, support in interacting with their children, and access to resources to assist with challenges they are facing.

Ivy Tech currently manages five such groups in Indianapolis, partnering with local elementary schools which provide space. Ivy Tech early childhood education practicum students provide assistance staffing these groups.

The Chase grant will be used to employ an additional full-time coordinator, which will enable Ivy Tech to establish two new Play and Learn groups in Indianapolis. To date, Play and Learn has served 85 families, reaching a total of 280 participants.

Ivy Tech Foundation partners with donors to invest in Ivy Tech Community College students, faculty and programs to build stronger communities and a better Indiana. Founded in 1969, Ivy Tech Foundation has received more than $103,000,000 in charitable contributions to date and has more than 3,000 donors per year. The Ivy Tech Foundation ranked #1 for community college fundraising in 2005 and 2006, and #5 in 2007.
